Sabine KOULI

Sabine KOULY 02.jpg

Originally from Togo, Sabine Kouli has been passionate about traditional African, South African, Gospel, and Negro-spiritual songs for over 25 years, drawn to the powerful expression and emotion they evoke. For the past 19 years, she has founded several a cappella groups, vocal ensembles, and choirs focused on Afro-American and gospel music (Maezah, Soul Spirit, La Jaama, Le Lyon Gospel Mass Choir, Gospel Jam). As a singer and choir director, she shares her passion for this repertoire with an enthusiastic audience through choir workshops and training sessions. She is also a singer with the groups Abigoba (Electro Jazz), MinK (album released on September 6, 2019), the big band DimDamDomb, and the fusion music group Blu Bantu.

In 2004, she founded the first international gospel festival in the Rhône-Alpes region, Absolute Gospel, which will celebrate its 20th edition in 2024. From 2005 to 2010, she worked with the Choir of the Lyon Opera in gospel music, narrated stories of works for young audiences accompanied by the Opera Orchestra (such as "The Firebird" and "The Circus of Animals"), and sang in the Lyon Opera Choir for the production of "Porgy and Bess" directed by Dominique Hervieu and José Montalvo, under the baton of William Eddins in 2010. She rejoined the Lyon Opera Choir in January 2018 for the production of "Don Carlos" conducted by Daniele Rustioni.

For several years, Sabine Kouli has been involved in numerous projects, collaborations, and educational and artistic endeavors with various choirs: Illumination Chorale (New York), Akatsuki Middle School Choir (Japan), Lyon International High School Choir, The Choir of the Lyon Opera, The Lyon Gospel Mass Choir (130 choristers), The René Cassin Choir (Tarare, 110 choristers), Universal Spirit (Lyon/Sacred Music Institute), Abel Maxwell Gospel Choir (Oullins), Entre Ciel et Terre (Tarare), Les Voix d’Aplemont (Le Havre), Gospelize It! Mass Choir (Montpellier), Voix de Femmes de St Fons, Ginga (Afro-Brazilian vocal ensemble), Amorgen Choir (Annecy), Adlibitum Choir (Annecy)…

She has worked with and contributed to numerous gospel choirs and vocal ensembles in France, the United States, Japan, Africa, and Belgium, including the Gospel For Life tour (1,000 choristers). Her extensive travels around the world to support her charitable projects for the culture and education of children in Africa (with the NGO Mama Africa) have allowed her to establish special connections with international artists.

Our Tracks with Sabine:

Together the Trio of The Late Timers and Sabine KOULI will release a single called: "Power, Fame & Gold". This mesmerizing track is about a young man who sells his soul to the devil and should not have.

The young man’s thought is sung by Greg while the good angel is sung by Sabine.

With live instruments, such as bass and electronic elements, the track is faithful to The Late Timers unique old-school sound with generous bass, and deep groovy mood for this blazing bop. The male flow, brimming with attitude, is vaguely reminiscent of Snoop Dogg, and contrasts sharply with the Gospel female vocals, which infuse the track with a touch of sensuality.
